The Method
The best AI slide makers of 2026 are ranked by Slide Maker Test Desk's annual evaluation of how fast each tool takes a one-sentence idea to a playable deck, scored on documented steps, free-plan limits, export formats and published prices.
"Slide maker" means software that turns a prompt or a document into an editable presentation file or a playable deck. Single-image generators and web page builders are out of scope.
Dimensions and weights
| Dimension | Weight | What is measured | Status in this run |
|---|---|---|---|
| Time to playable deck | 30% | Seconds from submitting one fixed brief to a complete, presentable draft, median of three runs | Not timed |
| Steps to playable deck | 20% | Prompts and clicks from first input to presentation mode, along the shortest documented path | Described from vendor documentation only |
| Free path | 20% | Whether the free plan builds a complete deck, and whether output carries a badge or a limit | Read from official pages |
| Export formats | 15% | PPTX, PDF or PNG export on any documented plan | Read from official pages |
| List price | 15% | Published price with billing period; compared only within the same currency | Read from official pages |
Scoring rules
Every rule is fixed before the data is collected, so anyone can recompute a score from the published facts. Free path scores 100 when the free plan builds a full deck with no badge, 60 when it builds a full deck with a badge, 30 when only a trial or one-time credits are documented, and 0 when no free path is documented.
Timing scores 100 for a first draft under 60 seconds, drops 10 points for each further 30 seconds, and scores 0 above 300 seconds. The timing band is set now, before any run, so the result cannot be tuned after the fact.
How the 2026.10 order was set
The order on the home page is editorial and provisional. It favours tools whose official pages document a one-step generation path and a PPTX export. No composite index is published for this edition. A composite index will appear only after the timing dimension has been run for every listed tool.
Evidence and method
Sources were read on October 17, 2026. Vendor pricing and help pages were fetched directly where they loaded, and read from search excerpts where they did not. Where a page did not load, the entry says no public data was retrieved. Third-party price articles are not used as evidence, because they disagree with one another.
Data limits
The speed dimension has not been run, so this edition makes no claim about how long any tool takes. Vendor plans change, and credit allowances are counted differently by each vendor. Read every price and limit on the vendor's own page before you buy.
Before you buy: a short checklist
- Open the vendor's own pricing page and note the currency, the billing period and the seat count.
- Check whether the free plan refreshes each month, or whether the credits are one-time.
- Check which export formats appear on the plan you would actually pay for, and whether a badge is added.
- Check whether the trial asks for a card, and the date on which it converts to a charge.
- Run one real brief through the trial before you commit, and time it with the protocol in our timing guide.
